Pelicans Lose in the Ninth Against Lynchburg

The Myrtle Beach took the lead, 4-3, in their game against the Lynchburg Hillcats with a run in the top of the seventh inning only to have the Hillcats tie the game with a run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Bryan Digby came in to work the bottom of the ninth and walked the Hillcats’ Javier Guzman. Guzman moved to second on a sacrifice by Jose Hernandez. Two batters later, Guzman scored the winning run on a game winning rbi single to left field by Victor Mercedes to give the Hillcats a 5-4 win. Lynchburg’s lead-off hitter, Andy Wilson, went 4-4 and Victor Mercedes went 2-5 with a triple and the game winning single.
For Pelicans, Martin Prado went 2-4, including his first triple of the season. Steven Doestch continued his hitting streak at five games with a double in the first inning. Saturday night Myrtle Beach will start right-hander Sean White (3-1) against Lynchburg’s left-hander Jonathan Albaladejo (0-1).

Endl Shut-Outs Avalanche

Starting pitcher Brady Endl worked seven innings of shut-out baseball, striking out six; Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit a two run home-run; and Josh Burrus contributed with an RBI double and the Myrtle Beach Pelicans beat the Salem Avalanche 5-0 Thursday night. With the win Endl is 2-2 and the Pelicans took three of four from Salem. Besides his home run, Saltalamacchia had two singles. Martin Prado went 2-5 with two doubles. Burrus hit five doubles in the series.
Myrtle Beach continues their seven-game road trip Friday night in Lynchburg against the Hillcats. Tonight's game is scheduled to start at 7:05 pm. All of the live play-by-play action can be heard on ESPN Radio 93.9 FM, 93.7 FM, and 1050 AM "The Team."
