USAID Policy Paper: USAID Assistance to Internally Displaced
Persons
The 25 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) wandering across the
earth to escape violence, hatred, hunger, and natural disasters are
getting a formal offer of assistance and protection under a new USAID
policy adopted in September 2004. This policy broadens the focus on
IDPs in the broader USAID strategy to address all phases of
displacement, ranging from emergency relief to transitional aid to
long-term development assistance after resettlement and reintegration.
A comprehensive commitment to the problems associated with internal
displacement is a USAID priority.
EvalWeb - Collaborative Research
on USAID Programs and Performance
DIS' redesign of EvalWeb,
USAID's web site on evaluations, will provide
information and tools to strengthen evaluation
and assessment work in the Agency and throughout
the development community. The site includes
evaluation guidelines, contract mechanisms,
and methodology, as well as sector-specific
evaluation and indicator guidelines, examples
of evaluation SOWs, TIPS series, ADS, and
links to relevant external organizations.
EvalWeb launched in October on the internet
at the Knowledge Fair.
The Greenbook - U.S. Overseas Loans
and Grants, Obligations and Loan Authorizations
The Greenbook shows a complete historical
record of United States (U.S.) foreign aid
to the rest of the world. The Greenbook
reports all loans and grants authorized
by the U.S. Government for each fiscal year
from 1945 to 2002, and reports the assistance
by purpose and by country. From this site
users can create their own tables and reports
by selecting recipient countries, years
and type of USG assistance.
USAID Water and Conflict Seminar: Presentation materials, survey now available
Water is increasingly in very short supply and progressively more polluted.
Its scarcity is especially critical for developing countries. What happens when there are too
many users and competing water demands within a country, across boundaries, and regionally?
Updated Nov 1: Now includes video excerpts of all the speakers, presentation materials, and a feedback survey for conference attenders.

Working for a Sustainable World Report Web Site
The report distills the results of a survey of 400 sustainable development initiatives supported by the U.S. Government.
The survey Web site
has links to introductory videos by President Bush and Secretary of State Colin Powell, the summary and complete versions of the report, a searchable database of survey results, and more.

Linkages between democracy and governance activities and those of other sectors are an emerging trend in USAID. The new
Democracy and Governance Cross-Sectoral Linkages website
is a response to this increased attention and study, aiming to support linkages in USAID programming by serving as an information clearinghouse and forum for discussion.
