The PADI Instructor Development Programme (IDC) is your final step in the quest to become a PADI Instructor. During the IDC, you'll learn to use and adapt the PADI System of diver education to individual student needs.
Comprehensive training, supported by a wide variety of PADI educational materials, earns PADI Instructors respect from both students and peers. PADI Open Water Scuba Instructors may conduct a broad range of PADI programs from Discover Scuba to Divemaster.
The PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor rating sets you apart from the crowd. PADI Instructors do things others can only daydream about. If you want to live an extraordinary life, you're in the right place - diving in Malaysia.

To qualify for the PADI IDC, you must:
- Be certified as a PADI Assistant Instructor or a PADI Divemaster, or as an instructor with another recreational diver training organisation
- Be at least 18 years old
- Be fit for diving and submit a medical form signed by a physician
- Have been a certified diver for at least six months and logged at least 60 open water dives with experience in night, deep and navigation prior to starting the IDC, and have logged at least 100 dives prior to entering the Instructor Examination (IE)
- Submit proof of CPR training within the past 24 months.
During the PADI IDC, you'll learn the PADI System of diver education, standards and procedures, effective academic teaching presentations, teaching in confined water, conducting open water training dives and additional related topics. You'll learn these topics through the PADI IDC by:
- Knowledge development through self-study, quizzes, lectures and presentations
- Confined water skill review and assessment, workshops and presentations
- Open water workshops, rescue assessment and candidate presentations
After successful completion of the IDC, you must successfully complete the PADI IE. You will be evaluated on dive theory, academic teaching, confined-water (pool) teaching, open-water teaching and general diving skills and professionalism.
After successfully completing your PADI IDC and IE, you receive a certification card and certificate denoting this rating. You'll also become a member of PADI and receive benefits, including the ability to purchase professional liability insurance (which may be required to conduct some activities).
