The aim of the City of Southport’s Public Services Department (PSD) is to provide full-service utilities to the citizens of Southport with the quality and care expected in a tightly-knit community. Our responsiveness and attention to detail help to contribute to Southport’s high quality of life. The PSD strives to meet the challenges and exceed the expectations that arise as a result Southport’s unique location and community. Services The PSD provides infrastructure operation and maintenance for all citizens and businesses inside the city limits. Basic services include the provision of electricity, drinking water, sewage collection and treatment, public road maintenance, buildings and grounds maintenance, stormwater collection, and solid waste collection. The Department provides many other services during the daily course of operations. Service Interruptions The City of Southport does not guarantee continuous and uninterrupted electric service and shall not be liable for loss or damage caused by any failure to supply electricity or by any interruption or reversal of the supply of electricity unless due to the negligence of the City. The customer shall notify the City promptly of any defect in service or of any trouble or irregularity in the electric supply. In no event shall the City be responsible for any damage resulting during the customer’s delay in notifying the City of such trouble or irregularity. Hours The PSD staff is in from 7:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. However, because of the nature of what we do, our job is a 24-hour a day responsibility. Each department has one or two staff on call at all times, including the Public Services Director. Calls during “off-hours” are generally taken by calling (910) 457-7917; but remember, this number is for emergencies only. Location The PSD offices are located at the following address (this is not to be confused with the Utility Department, whose billing offices are located at City Hall) 1010 North Howe Street |
