The sight of the New Year’s Eve Fireworks launching into the night sky from the arch of the Sydney Harbour Bridge is unequalled.

The New Years Eve Firework display is a well recognised event, and one which draws tens of thousands of keen observers to any available patch of grass, road or rooftop.

Accommodation in Sydney over the New Year is usually booked out well in advance, especially accommodation properties with views of the Fireworks, or near the harbour. Last year many hotels over New Year were fully booked by August and hotels with views of the fireworks were fully booked by mid year.

Most hotels in Sydney have higher prices and strict booking conditions over the busy New Year period. Luxury and 5 Star accommodation in the city, or preferred areas such as the beach or eastern suburbs are the most sought after and are available at rates beginning around A$300 per night.

For families, groups or single tourists, Sydney accommodation in 3 – 4 Star properties is available from around A$150 – A$250 per night.

For less than A$150 per night one should expect budget accommodation, or in less preferred areas.

In Australia, Christmas and New Year come in the middle of summer, a season characterised for every visitor by the decadence of the beachside lifestyle and balmy nights so be prepared for a Christmas / New Year season with a difference.
