MARC records

Kinetica provides a range of products to meet your needs:

Users who receive MARC records from Kinetica are required to retain the 040 field which identifies the source of the MARC record. Please remember to add your NUC symbol to the 'a' and 'd' subfields of the 040 field when cataloguing a new record or changing a record respectively.

The Kinetica MARC format table maps the differences between online display and MARC output via downloading and batch products.

MARC*Link

MARC*Link allows you to obtain MARC records from Kinetica via the Internet.

You select records for MARC*Link by adding, modifying or deleting a holding or using the RMR button, on KineticaWeb or using the Kinetica Client.

You pick up your records from the MARC*Link Home Page up to 5 times a day. Records are stored on the server for a maximum of 21 days before they are deleted. You will need a forms-capable World Wide Web browser such as recent versions of Internet Explorer or Netscape, or via ftp client software. The records can then be loaded into your local library system.

Records are available in USMARC: spanned, unspanned or unblocked.

To register for MARC*Link or obtain more information see the MARC*Link home page. You can also get free test records.

For information on charges for registering for this service, see the Kinetica Charges page.

Holdings file service

This product supplies MARC records over the Internet, but they are stored in a directory on the National Library's server for you to collect by FTP or they can be supplied to your server by FTP. The records must have your holdings attached on Kinetica and be restricted to a date range, for example the records you added your holdings to in the last fortnight.

Products can be defined by material type, record level (for example monographs or serials), date range, and holdings institution.

The records are supplied in USMARC format.

Records can be ordered on a regular cycle, for example weekly or monthly, or as a once-off.

The cost of the service is listed in the current Charging Schedule.

Titles List

A Kinetica titles list is an electronic text file that lists titles for which your library has holdings on Kinetica. Records in the titles list are displayed with the following fields: Amicus number, title, name, imprint, ISBN/ISSN and holding.

Example

AN 000013714599
Title Seagrasses of Australia / H. Kirkman.
Name Kirkman, H. (Hugh)
Imprint Canberra : Environment Australia, 1997
ISBN 0642252750
Holding WFT 577.6940994 KIR <20238>

This file of brief records is then sorted, according to your specifications, by one of the following: Amicus number, title, name, ISBN/ISSN or holding.

When ordering your file, you can request all titles or restrict your list according to the bibliographic level, (ie. monograph or serial) and/or record type, such as microform, computer file etc. You can request a complete list of your holdings or only those added after a certain date. Where a library has more than one NUC symbol, files may be requested against two or more NUCs.

Please order your titles list using the online order form at the end of this page.

Charges: The current charges are listed in the Charging Schedule.
Processing: Requests will be processed as soon as possible after the order is received. However to ensure your list is processed on the date you nominate please ensure the order is sent at least 5 days prior to the nominated run date.
Notification: Customers will be notified by email with the title list as an attachment. Where the list cannot be emailed customers will be advised how to collect it from the NLA server.

Please complete and submit the Titles list order form

Location Data

This product has been created to support inter-library loan activities for Australian libraries. The Kinetica Document Delivery (KDD) system includes a detailed directory of Australian inter-library loan participants. Until recently this has been sufficient to support inter-library loans for Australian libraries. With a growing number of vendors moving to ISO ILL compliance, a number of libraries have implemented inter-library loan systems that cannot access the directory data shared in KDD. This product is designed to address that gap.
