Green Youth Farm
| Teenagers are taking a giant step into the world of green careers through the Green Youth Farm. This Garden project in North Chicago and Waukegan is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture. Instituted in 2003, the training program for high school students fosters interest in horticulture, agriculture and green enterprise. Students grow crops on a 1-acre site and are trained in plant and crop science, as well as business practices. |

Field trips boost understanding of sustainable gardening, vermicomposting, urban farming and business enterprise. Next summer, plans include selling crops such as peppers, corn and beans at local farmers markets. |
