Bulgaria: Tender for the Production, Development and Marketing of Wine

.

Winery Seeks Investor

Company: NOVICO – NORTH LTD

Vinprom Chirpan Ltd

(Deadline: September 9, 2005)

4 Lozarska Street, 6200 Chirpan, Bulgaria

Novico is a company offering partnership in the wine production and trade sector.  This presentation concerns the Vinprom Chirpan Ltd production unit.

The factory is in two stages.  The basic production area was built in 1970 as a primary wine production.  The workshop, which distillates hard liquors, was built in 1983. In 2002 the factory became property of Novico- North Ltd.  The winery has a capacity of 10,000 tons, including 6,000 tons for primary wine production. The factory produces and bottles natural sparkling wines, and has bottling lines for table wines and spirits. The factory owns 165 acres of 4-year-old grape vineyards that produce Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

New production lines were added in 2002 for the new high class natural sparkling wines under the titles “Ceremony”, “Balkan Crown”, and “Etiquette.”  The traditional, and famous, champagne, “Iskra” (a white and red wine), is also produced at the winery.  The high quality red and white wine versions of the “Balkan Crown” series are produced there including Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Aligote, and Chardonnay.

The venture is offered in three stages:

Stage one: Market development

A)    Novico would accept a partner to undertake the development of marketing for 3,000,000 bottles per year.  The marketing would be for the “Balkan Crown” series, which comes as a Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Aligote, and Chardonnay.  The contract would entitle the partner to 50 percent of the profits derived from the marketing as well as exclusive representation in the region where the sales were executed.

B)     Novico would register a new trademark in the equal partnership, which would be used for the above-mentioned distribution.

Stage two:  Development of vineyards.

After 30 percent of the first stage is completed, a continuation of the contract would be offered as a 51 to 49 percent venture in an agricultural company.  Lands would then be purchased and developed into a new 500 to 750 acre vineyard. The vineyard would be near Chirpan, which is extremely favorable for viticulture.

Stage three: Joint ownership of the production facilities.

After the successful realization of the previous two stages Novico would negotiate the respective portions of the winery.

There is a notable benefit to be derived by using the European Union’s Special Accession Program for Agriculture and Rural Development (SAPARD) fund to assist in the first and second stages.  SAPARD can subsidize as much as 50 percent of the investment. It is also important to note that all of the stages mentioned above are open for negotiation.
