THE DIAMOND PROMOTION SERVICE - DPS
The DPS - Diamond Promotion Service - is promoting the ’Whisper“ campaign in Dubai, the ”Forever I Do“ in the United States, the ”Trilogy“ in the United Kingdom and Europe, and ”Tria“ in Turkey.
The Nakshatra brand, endorsed by Aishwarya Rai, was introduced in 2000, into the domestic market in India. The brand has been licensed to a company, Brightest Circle of Light, which is held by 3 sightholders including Mahendra Brothers, Dimexon, and the Gitanjali Group.

I‘m not amongst the privileged few with access to the extranet of the DTC - so I‘ve put together my own list of sightholders (84 + 11) - hopefully, without too many mistakes. I‘m not sure if I got all of the 95, but I‘m pretty close. Mistakes will be corrected in the next few weeks, as those involved with them will surely let me know. So this is my totallly unofficial - give it a good guess - personal list. Let me know if you‘ve been included and you shouldn‘t have been, or, alternatively, if you‘ve been left out (unintentionally), and I‘ll make the corrections at the end of August. Until then, this is what it looks like:
The diamond business has been changing, and we’re changing with it. In the next few months, we’ll be telling you where you can buy diamonds (both online and off), cut and polished by the sightholders (and their associates and affiliates) in diamond polishing factories around the world.
We’ll let you know about the launch of the Nakshatra brand outside of India - starting with Dubai. And also all of the hearts and arrows options, worldwide, that are available under different brand names or private labels; where it’s possible to buy diamonds at international airports; or what your Fifth Avenue and Madison Avenue options are; or the West Side near Lincoln Center in New York; or if you are taking a cruise to the Caribbean or Alaska; or visiting in China next year.
But what if you are set upon a diamond that you know was cut and polished from rough diamonds from Canada or Russia, Botswana, or South Africa?
We’ll be taking a good look at the Bridal Jewelry market around the world; and also the Right Hand Rings that are advertised in all of the top fashion magazines.
The Hip Hop theme and its impact on new jewelry ideas will be featured with articles about Jacob & Co. as well as Kimora.
We’ll highlight all of the patented diamonds that have been trademarked and launched on the market in the past few years. And show how the tradeshows are used to launch brands (especially branded diamond cuts) - and sustain brand name recognition - for branded diamonds and branded diamond jewelry designer collections.
The DTC and the sightholders also started a trend of celebrity brand endorsements in India (for the Nakshatra and Arisia) that has been very successful and followed by a number of sightholders (Kiah and D’damas to name a few). Downstream marketing and the domestic retail jewelry market in India will also be covered.
For now - for more information about what is happening behind the scenes with marketing and advertising in the diamond and jewelry business worldwide.
The Forevermark is a brand that the DTC launched in Hong Kong with a number of sightholders and their retail jewelry store partners.
The DTC’s Forevermark, introduced in September 2004, has presented a challenge to the concept of branding because the inscription (ion inscribed on the table of the diamond) is meant to show that a Forevermark diamond is genuine, natural, and has not been altered or treated. The diamonds with the Forevermark are on sale at 100 retail jewelry outlets throughout Hong Kong including: Chopard, Chow Sang Sang, Chow Tai Fook, Just Diamond, Larry Jewelry, and Luk Fook.
Sightholders were chosen for this pilot project because they had systems in place “to ensure the traceability of DTC diamonds in the Forevermark program” and were willing “to submit to independent auditing of their pipeline-integrity”.
