technical overview

product description

VSM is a java server application capable of accepting html tagged files, encrypting them on the server, passing them to a client mailer and accepting http based requests for decryption in real time.

VSM provides an automated system for the delivery of remittance notices, bills and other objects by encrypting files with ciphers, unique to each item. These files can then be delivered over the internet via email without passing the cipher key. The object can be decrypted on the local machine.

server system description

The Java server is based on JDK 1.1 or better and provides for automated encryption and compression or decryption and decompression. The client requires an HTML enabled email client only.

The system allows access control to be easily configured and support for the generation and storage of cryptographic public keys, as well as exportable cryptographic operations for message digest and signature generation. Finally, it provides classes that support signed/guarded objects and secure random number generation.

Server software runs on platforms supporting Java 1.1 or higher.

The system supports plug and play encryption for simple exchange of symmetric Blowfish 448 bit encrypted message with MD5 message digests. Simple and secure.

The decoding operates with all versions of common web browsers such as Internet Explorer, Netscape, Opera, Konqueror etc. It operates on Windows 95/98/NT/2000, Mac OSX, Linux and any Unix.

XML interface description

The XML interface is a two-part document that defines the tagged files "look" in order for them to be successfully packaged by the encoding applet.

Part 1 is the document type definition (DTD) that defines the structural relationship between the tags that comprise VSM. Part 2 is a template VSM that has been marked up with XML tags. This can be done through a simple web interface and be used for one off emails or thousands of similar bulk emails containing customised information such as all your monthly invoices. A number of formats can be used, HTML, XML and PDF most commonly.
