Stocked Fisheries
Ballin Lough is a rich limestone lake of 22 hectares located 2 miles North of
Westport, which has earned a reputation as a fine rainbow trout fishery.
A high proportion of the stock is introduced to the lake as fry and the fish
grow on naturally to produce superb quality trout to the rod.
Loughs Bo, near L. Arrow, Co. Sligo, is stocked with brown trout and the
adjacent Lough Nasool is stocked with rainbow trout.
Loughs Lannagh and Bilberry (Islandeady)
are two substantial lakes (>50 ha
each) located between Castlebar and Westport. They are stocked annually with
catchable sized brown trout.
Lough Brohly is another stocked brown trout and rainbow trout fishery located 5
km east of Ballina.
With the exception of Loughs Lannagh and Bilberry, day ticket are required
for the above fisheries and these can be obtained locally.
