Like President Bush’s efforts on the
national level, Governor Frank Murkowski
and Lieutenant Governor Loren Leman want to encourage Alaska faith-based
and
community volunteer efforts to increase ministries and services.
This will include,
in some cases, the ability to compete on an equal footing for government
grants.
This effort is intended to maintain the integrity of faith-based
missions, strengthen
private support and reduce bureaucratic barriers. Some State departments
have
already identified liaisons to work with the Lieutenant Governor
and faith-based
and community volunteers.
Governor Murkowski and Lieutenant Governor Leman share a sincere
interest in
seeing a successful partnership between the faith-based community
and State agencies.
The Governor has tasked the Lieutenant Governor with tackling the
issues of these
partnerships.
