Press Release

NORTHERN VIRGINIA & DC LAW ENFORCEMENT REEL IN ONLINE CHILD PREDATORS
April Fool’s Day Press Conference to Reveal Arrests & New Task Force

FAIRFAX, VA - March 29, 2005 - For law enforcement, the process of finding and arresting online child predators is often compared to fishing. Simply create the appropriate bait, or chat room profile. Cast the line. Then wait for them to come to you.

They did, time and time again, during a 10-day “fishing expedition” by a new DC-Northern Virginia law-enforcement task force that identifies, tracks, and arrests online predators trying to entice children. In most of the cases made by the task force, it was only a matter of minutes before an adult was actively soliciting the “child” for sex. It took only a matter of hours for the investigators to arrange a meeting with the online predators – a truly terrifying reality for children and parents everywhere.

Those predators will be revealed along with an introduction of this unprecedented law-enforcement effort at a press conference Friday, April 1, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in Old Towne Alexandria.

The members of the DC-Northern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force include the Alexandria Police Department, Arlington Police Department, Fairfax Police Department, Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office, George Mason University Police Department, Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, Manassas Police Department, Prince William County Police Department, Stafford County Sheriff’s Office, Office of the Stafford County Commonwealth’s Attorney, Washington, DC Metropolitan Police Department, Virginia State Police, Federal Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Department of Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), U.S. Department of Justice Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (DOJ-JJDP), and the U.S Postal Service.
