Many customers in this situation can still access local channels via an off-air antenna. If you are within distance of a tower and can capture the signal you'll still get your locals. Simply switch from DIRECTV to antenna using buttons on your remote. Use our antenna locator to find the right antenna for you.
A number of DIRECTV® customers
may also be eligible for non-local network feeds. Eligibility is governed by federal law†. The following factors may
determine your eligibility:
• Location relative to a metropolitan area.
• Ability to receive television signals of any type.
• Distance from television broadcasting towers. |
* Eligibility for local channels based on designated market areas as defined by Nielsen Media
Research, Inc.
**In select ZIP codes only.
†Under the Satellite Home Viewer Improvement Act (SHVIA) DIRECTV® is
permitted to transmit non-local feeds of major broadcast networks "for private
home viewing" to "persons who reside in unserved households". "Private home
viewing" is defined as "viewing, for private use in a household by means of
satellite reception equipment which is operated by an individual in that
household and which serves only that household." An "unserved household" is
defined as one that receives less than a Grade B signal from local TV stations.
SHVIA requires the Individual Location Longley-Rice ("ILLR") model
to be used in determining whether a customer resides in an unserved household.
‡In this area, a DIRECTV® Multi-Satellite System is required.
However, local channels are temporarily available using any DIRECTV®
System. |
