We recommend that no more than 3 hours driving be planned in one day, in order to permit stops to view the many wonderful scenic and historic sites on these routes.
These routes can, of course, be done in reverse order!

Australian Capital Territory.
1. The Hume and Federal Highways
Canberra to Sydney and from Canberra to Melbourne.
New South Wales
1. Hume Highway
Inland route south from Sydney to Melbourne.
2. New England Highway
Inland route north from Newcastle to Brisbane.
3. Pacific Highway
Coastal route north from Sydney to Newcastle and Brisbane.
4. Princes Highway
Coastal route south from Sydney to Melbourne.
Northern Territory
1. Arnhem Highway
Darwin to Kakadu and Arnhem Land.
2. Stuart Highway
Darwin to Alice Springs
Victoria
1. Great Ocean Road Victoria
This route can be reached from Melbourne and runs between Torquay and Allansford on the southern coast of Victoria but the Victorian coastline can still be followed on via the A1 highway to Portland
2. Hume Highway
Inland route south from Sydney to Melbourne.
3. Portland to Ballarat B160
A pleasant drive from the Coast at the end of the Great Ocean Road through Victorian Countryside to the Historic Gold Mining City of Ballarat.
4. Princes Highway
Coastal route south from Sydney to Melbourne.
Queensland
1. New England Highway
Inland from Brisbane to Newcastle.
2. Pacific Highway
Coastal route from Brisbane to Newcastle and Sydney
