Hurricane Wilma
The State Department has a 24-hour task force to oversee the U.S. response to the damage in Mexico, as well as a Call Center to handle queries from the public. You can now check the status of your regular (tourist) U.S. passport application online, using your last name, date of birth, and the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number.
