Deputy Spokesman Adam Ereli (Nov. 7): "[T]here were major irregularities and fraud that are of serious concern. We will urge the Government of Azerbaijan to take immediate investigations into these irregularities and fraud consistent with Azerbaijan's laws, institutions and election legislation. Deputy Secretary Zoellick is traveling to Kenya and Sudan Nov. 6-11 to press for progress in the ongoing Sudanese peace process, an end to the violence in Darfur that threatens aid relief, and achievement of a political settlement of the Darfur crisis. Secretary Rice accompanied President Bush to Latin America. After the conclusion of the Summit of the Americas, they visited Brazil at the invitation of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silvaa, and then Panama to meet with President Martin Torrijos Espino. [more from the trip]

The second Forum for the Future takes place November 11 and 12, 2005 in Manama, Bahrain, hosted by the Governments of Bahrain and the United Kingdom, the current G8 president. Foreign ministers from across the BMENA region, the G8 and other partner countries will work to further reform in the areas of democracy, civil society and education.


    A national strategy will safeguard against the danger of avian influenza by detecting outbreaks, expanding domestic vaccine production capacity, stockpiling treatments, preparing to respond to a pandemic, and ensuring the health and safety of all Americans. [more]
