    The Office of Inspector General (OIG) responds to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Privacy Act requests related to documents that originated with, and are within the possession of, OIG.   Requests for records that are exclusively OIG-related, i.e. investigative records and reports, should be sent by mail or fax to the address below:

    Before submitting requests for OIG reports, please visit OIG's FOIA reading room and library to ensure that the material that you are requesting has not already been posted there.

     

    For FOIA requests, click here .  For Privacy Act requests, click here .   Although FOIA requests do not have to follow any standard format, they must be in writing.  In formulating your request to the OIG, please refer to the guidance provided at the Department of State's website at http://foia.state.gov/AboutFOIA.asp, in particular the section entitled “Making a FOIA Request”.  Please note that the web-based “FOIA Request Aid” is for the submission of requests to the Office of Information Programs and Services and not to OIG.  Please do not use the “FOIA Request Aid” when submitting your OIG request. 

     

    Please be advised that by making a FOIA requests, it shall be considered an agreement by you to pay all applicable fees charged under 22 CFR 171.14, up to $25.00, unless you seek a waiver of fees.  We will confirm this agreement in our acknowledgement letter.  When making a request, you may specify a willingness to pay a greater or lesser amount.
