Halibut Fishing
Homer:Homer is perhaps he most famous of all these destinations and is the self-proclaimed halibut capital of the world and is a 1.5 hour drive from the Kenai River and the town of Soldotna. Many of the largest halibut taken annually are caught within the Homer fleet. Homer boats travel 2-3 hours one way out of Cook Inlet to fishing grounds in the Gulf of Alaska. Homer is not the best choice is you have weak sea legs and are prone to getting sea sick, but it does promise some of the best halibut fishing Alaska has to offer. See our fishing rates page for pricing. Season: May 1. - Sept 15 Deep Creek / Anchor Point:Both of these ports are located along the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula with Deep Creek being the most popular choice for the majority of Kenai Peninsula halibut anglers. Deep Creek is a 45 minute drive from the Kenai river and the town of Soldotna and Anchor Point is just over one hour. The boat ride to the fishing grounds is 20-45 minutes from both ports. Fishing is very good and again, limits are largely a guarantee. See our fishing rates page for pricing. Season: May 1. - Sept 15 Seward:Seward is located on the other side of the Kenai Mountain Range in the waters of Prince William Sound. This port also offers excellent halibut fishing in addition to excellent fishing for ling cod and rock fish. All three species can be caught in the same trip, making this a very popular salt water destination. Seward is a 1.5 hour drive from the Kenai River and the town of Soldotna. See our fishing rates page for pricing. Season: May 1 - Sept 15 |
