Alaskan Mosquitos

The mosquitos are not as bad as one might think unless you happen to venture out into areas with lakes and a lot of standing water.  Sometimes referred to as the Alaska state bird, the mosquito can be very annoying.  There are few things you can do to avoid being a target for these little insects.

  • Avoid wearing perfume, cologne and other sweet fragrances.
  • Use an insect repellent.  Avon Skin so Soft is known to be very effective, as is eucalyptus oil.
  • Take vitamin B1 for a few weeks before coming to Alaksa.

There is an ultrasonic device on the market that is reported to repel mosquitos.  If you try one of these, let us know if it really works.
