Finding Dracula

Hi guys,

I am on a mission to find the wearabouts of Dracula, both the Bram Stoker legend Vlad the Impaler, but am really confused as to where I should be going in Romania to find him!! The guide books say Brasov, but i've heard that Stoker actually based his Dracula in Bistrita....is there anything in Bistrita to see in relation to him??

I would be glad of any info on this!!!

Also does anyone know how to get from Bucharest to Bistrita? how much are planes?

Thank you!!!

Bulgaria To Venice via Serbia in Winter

Hello,

I'm going to be in Sofia for NYE and planning to get a bus or train to Belgrade and then probably on to Ljubljana and finally to Italy.

I've heard that the Serbian transport system can seize up in winter. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Any other info, advice or recommendations regarding traveling from Bulgaria to Italy overland would be really appreciated.

Thanks

Debit Cards

hi everyone -
I'm trying to figure out the best way for me to access my money while i'm traveling through Eastern Europe next year, without being charged the outrageous ATM fees that my bank is determined to charge me. One sure way is for me to use my Debit Card (ATM card) to purchase from a store (market/drug store/convenience store) using my PIN and get cash back. While this is very common and easy to do in the US, I'm not sure how easy it will be able to do in other countries as I have never tried. So, this is where I will be going to - Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, Albania, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Turkey - does anyone know if I will be able to get money this way in any of these places? Is it widespread (I know, unlikely, but i can hope) or will I have to hunt down the one store with a PIN pad?
Thanks in advance!
cam

Oh! and if it is just the one store - can you tell me which one so maybe I won't have to hunt so much? Thanks!

Vilnius - accomodation

Friends,

Can anyone suggest a good place to stay in Vilnius (for 4 nights). Somewhere that is good value and, ideally, close to where the restaurants/bars/clubs are concentrated.

My budget is £20 per night but if i can get a good place for less than this i would be really pleased!

Thanks in advance!

Paul

expat community in beautiful Bratislava?!?

Hi to All,

I'm new to Bratislava (3 days and counting) and being a Polish - American I feel very comfortable here (I spent the last 4 months in Budapest, where the language gap was something of an issue) because of the Slavic language (with my Polish I can understand at least half of what's said!:) However, I'd be more than happy to meet any other foreigners involved in the 3 basic activities of life (outside of work): sports/excercise, beer/wine and kids (I've got a 10 month old baby girl).

Hope to meet some of you soon.

Russia trains, TransSiberian trains. Online booking.

The best way to book a train ticket online is to visit www.russianrails.com. 24 hour reply from managers, delivery to any city in the world. I've tried them and they are great. I advise this company. And the prices are much lower than in other companies.

romania

hello:)

i'm planning on going to romania in december or january and have three questions concerning this trip.

first, is local transportation working fine in winter (i know a friend advised me not to go to serbia in winter because of the snow and of transportation being paralized) in the country (trains and buses)?

second, what are places you'll recommend me to visit?
i'll do bucharest, timisoara, maybe cluj, i want to see lovely monasteries. any well-informed advice on places of great interest in rormania?
i'm most interested in beautiful architecture.

Cheap Accommodation in Kyiv...........

Just in case someone out there knows someone, who knows someone, I am looking for cheap accommodation (eg. a small apartment in suburbs), in Kyiv, for the 3 weeks from 19 December to 9 January.......

The plane tickets have already been booked, so this trip is a certainty. A bit cheeky I know, but there's no harm in asking, is there?

Reliable, mature gentleman, who will provide what assurances he can.
