Anyone under 18 in the state of Florida who wishes to get a drivers license needs permission from their parent or guardian. In most cases, teens go down to the DMV office with their parent to get their first drivers license - in the form of a learners permit. After a year of driving with a learners permit Florida teens under 18 are eligible for their full drivers license. This is when it gets dangerous.
The fact is that many 16 year olds are not ready to drive on their own and it's up to their parents or guardian to decide when they are ready. Parents, if there was any time to apply tough love this is it. If your teen isn't ready and you turn them loose on the highway you and your child could pay the ultimate price. The assumption is that you are spending time driving with your teen and evaluating their progress.
Here are a few ways to evaluate if your child is ready to drive on their own. Do they remain calm when surrounded by other cars? Are they comfortable in different situations like making a left turn at a traffic light? And the big test, does your teen stay focused on driving when there are other distractions. For example, they should ignore the cell phone if it rings. A young driver is not capable of answering the phone and driving at the same time. As a parent, you have to decide when your child is ready. Just reaching their 16th birthday isn't an automatic green light. Driving is a privilege and a dangerous one. So choose wisely.
Learners Permit (DATA) course and DMV Test Online
If your parent or gaurdian cannot bring you to the DMV then get a Parent Consent Form. It must be signed by your parent or guardian and notarized.
