Cars that Save Gas
If you're shopping for a new car gas mileage will probably be a consideration. Depending on the car you chose the cost of gas to drive that car for a year can range from $491 to over $2000. For many people saving $1,600 a year on gas sounds pretty attractive. Not surprisingly hybrid cars that use a combination of gas and electricity score the best gas mileage.
The United States Environmental Protection Agency tests cars and publishes ratings for gas mileage, gas emissions (read: pollution), and safety information. The 2005 gas mileage ratings give top marks to several hybrid cars. The Honda Insight and Toyota Prius deliver an impressive 60 MPG on the highway. They are both small, minimalist cars that should be standard equipment for all senior Sierra club officers - and probably are. There are also hybrid sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks from Chevrolet, GMC, and Ford.
If you like the car you have and are just looking to save some gas here are a few tips.
Note that driving more efficiently is the same as not driving aggressively. Meaning that if you are driving aggressively you could be wasting close to 30% of your gas. By taking all these steps you can save yourself 25 to 40% percent of your gas. That can translate into noticeable savings or a good way to rationalize a bigger vehicle.
