May 19, 2005 - Getting Two Tickets in Florida

It is possible to get two or more traffic tickets at the same time. This typically happens if you get pulled over for speeding or some moving violation like running a stop sign and you get cited for not wearing your seatbelt. If this happens to you what should you do?

Seat belt violations do not result in points so it makes no sense to take a traffic school course for the seat belt violation. In this case you would take a Florida traffic school course for the speeding ticket. Make sure you pay both the seat belt violation fine and other fines promptly -typically within 30 days.

Two Tickets that Carry Points

It is possible to get two tickets that may result in points. An example would be speeding and running a stop sign. In this situation you would want to take a traffic school course for the violation with the most points. When you register for traffic school on the Florida drivers association website you are asked to enter the ticket number. Make sure to enter the number of the ticket you want to avoid points for.

Why Can't You take Traffic School For both Tickets

Florida only allows you to complete a traffic school course once in a 12 month period and five times in your life to avoid points. So if you receive two tickets at the same time you can only complete the class for one of them.
