At JavaOne Tokyo, Sun Microsystems announced that Java Studio Enterprise 8 and Java Studio Creator will be available for free with an SDN membership. This effectively removes the pricing barriers for developers who wnat to use any of the Sun Java development tools. Both Java Studio Enterprise 8 and Java Studio Creator 2 are built on top of the NetBeans 4.1 platform. NetBeans provides bleeding edge features and a focus for community development which will hopefully help propel development forward. The NetBeans.org open source project is proud to announce the availability of NetBeans IDE 5.0 Beta 2, NetBeans Platform 5.0 Beta 2, NetBeans Mobility Pack 5.0 Beta 2 and NetBeans Profiler Milestone 10. Since the Beta 1 release, approximately 1880 bugs have been fixed and Emacs key bindings are now implemented. The final NetBeans 5.0 release is planned for January, 2006 which is a change from the previously anticipated December, 2005 date (see roadmap). We are now running a "check for broken links" after every build and that shall prevent future regressions and re-introduction of new broken links.
