Florida Virtual School Receives the 21st Century Best"" Practices Award from the United States Distance Learning Association

""FLVS Mathematics Teacher Nathan Putney Recognized with Gold Award for Exemplary Online Teaching

Florida Virtual School received the 21st Century Best Practices Award from the United States Distance Learning Association.

"We are truly honored to receive this award from USDLA. For the past eight years, everyone at FLVS has been dedicated to creating and delivering an excellent virtual education program. This award is a very nice boost of confidence and confirms we are on the right track," said FLVS President and CEO Julie Young.

 

The newly minted 21st Century Best Practices Award, the highest award USDLA bestows upon distance education organizations, recognizes distance learning organizations for their innovation and excellence. FLVS, a nationally recognized e-Learning model and the first state-wide public virtual school established in the country, received the 2005 award for its leadership in promoting and growing online learning. FLVS was also acknowledged for its entrepreneurial, innovative approach the virtual education.

FLVS teacher, Nathan Putney was also honored with a USDLA Gold Award for Exemplary Online Teaching. Mr. Putney has been teaching mathematics at FLVS since 1999. Mr. Putney has taught for 30 years, is a National Board Certified instructor, and he received a University of Central Florida Trustees' Doctoral Fellowship to complete his Ed.D. He holds a M.Ed. in Mathematics from Clemson University, and a B.A. in Mathematics from Southern Wesleyan University.

FLVS and Mr. Putney were presented with the awards at a ceremony held in conjunction with the Fall Training and Online Learning Conference and Expo, the premier conference and expo for USDLA and the distance learning industry. The annual USDLA awards program acknowledges major accomplishments in distance learning and highlights distinguished instructors, programs, and distance leaning professionals. The 2005 competition included the new award category, the 21st Century Best Practices Award for Distance Learning recognizing extraordinary achievement in distance learning.
