Developer’s single-family project will move forward
Turning aside pleas from several members of Southport Planning Board, developer Rod Hyson said Thursday he would move ahead to fulfill preliminary plat review requirements for his planned 11-home single-family development at the city yacht basin.
County supports reactor
A third nuclear power generating unit would be welcome in Brunswick County, county commissioners unanimously resolved Monday, sending a message to Progress Energy that the board endorsed any plans the company might have to expand the Southport nuclear plant.

South swimmers set standard with impressive victory
Lucia Kincer raised the bar, and her athletes responded by setting a benchmark in South Brunswick swimming. Kincer, who founded the Cougar swim team four years ago, said words could not adequately describe her emotions after her girls squad defeated 3A schools Eastern Wayne, C.B. Aycock, Southern Wayne and Kinston in a five-team meet in Goldsboro last Tuesday.
