The primary purpose of the grand rounds program is to provide continuing education for perinatal health care providers on topics relevant to the March of Dimes mission: prevention of infant mortality, birth defects and preterm birth. Grand rounds strengthen the relationship between local March of Dimes chapters and the medical, nursing and public health communities.
The Prematurity Grand Rounds Program, jointly sponsored by the March of Dimes and the Johnson & Johnson Pediatric Institute, focuses on various topics relevant to preterm labor and birth.
The program features:
- Medical and nursing grand rounds in at least 30 sites, with selection based on objective need criteria, interest and opportunities in the field
- Development and use of standard annotated slide sets produced by the March of Dimes and national experts in collaboration with our Prematurity Campaign partners: the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses
- A train-the-trainer component to enhance local capacity and reach more providers in community facilities
- Pre-testing, post-testing and evaluation to assess knowledge, attitudes and expected practice outcomes
