Google Tops In "Search Hours" Ratings
By Danny Sullivan, Editor - The Search Engine Report, May 13, 2002 What's the most popular search engine? There's a new metric available for determining this, the total number of "search hours" users spend at a site, a figure that sees Google leading by far over other search engines.

At the top of the list in search hours is Google, where users spent nearly 13 million hours searching during March 2002, according to Nielsen//NetRatings. In contrast, second-place Yahoo came in with less than half that figure, 5.4 million search hours, followed by MSN Search with 4.9 million search hours logged. Figures are for US home and work internet users.

Trends Point To More Travel By Smarter Consumers
By Kristin Amarante - January 31, 2002 -- According to a new survey conducted by YP&B;, the percentage of leisure and business travelers who book trips on the Internet has increased, and that implies that the consumer is looking for the lowest price possible. “The new status symbol today is that you got a deal,” said Yesawich. “Consumers are becoming downwardly noble.” Yesawich said that the Internet allows people to comparison-shop, while permitting them to customize their purchase, which shifts the balance of power from the seller to the buyer. “Consumers now want to participate in the creation of new options,” said Yesawich. “One size no longer fits all.”

Information Is Key To Better Web Design
By Glenn Haussman - August 8, 2001 -- Creating a Website that manages to break through Internet clutter while also providing easy click-through access to room reservations is crucial to a hotel company’s success in the on-line community. Glovin said a site must contain certain elements to entice guests to look further, while also ensuring the site is intuitive to use. A winning site, said Glovin, is aesthetically pleasing and also gets the consumer to quickly understand what they will get at a specific property. “The stars of our Website are the hotels, and people want an incredible amount of detail about what is available at each specific hotel,” said Rosenberg. “The more you put on the site, the more people want to read.”
