Opportunities for Scholars

About the Academic Environment in the U.S.
The academic environment in the United States is considerably different than those in many other countries. Furthermore, the environment can be different for faculty, students, and within research institutions.

Admissions
In addition to individuals who are beginning graduate or professional study, many mid-career scholars also travel to the United States, whether to participate in postdoctoral research, to lecture, to consult, or to gain additional training.

Testing
For information on testing, please contact the individual programs in which you are interested, as requirements will vary.

Publications
The text for the "Opportunities for Scholars" section of this Web site is based on "Book 2: Graduate and Professional Study and Research" in the U.S. Department of State's If You Want to Study in the United States series. Please visit the "Publications" section to download PDFs of "Book 2" in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian or Spanish.
