We highly recommend that you rent a car to fully enjoy the beauty of Greater Victoria. Although many will assure you that you can reach everything you need to by foot, cab or bus - without a car you will be cutting yourself off from much of what Greater Victoria really has to offer over and above downtown attractions. For those of you arriving in Victoria via Seattle we bring to your attention the 20 minute flights available via Horizon Air. This is one way of avoiding long automobile line-ups at the ferries.

From: Vancouver (Tsawassen to Swartz Bay Ferry)
From: Anacortes (Swartz Bay Ferry)
From: Victoria International Airport
Part 1
- Hwy 17 south to Mackenzie - Hwy 1 cut-off
- turn right (west) on Mackenzie and go 3 blocks to Hwy 1
- at Hwy 1 turn right (north)
- 2 miles later take the Colwood / View Royal exit #10 which is Hwy 1A & 14, then ...Part 2
From: (up island) Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo Ferry
Part 1
follow Hwy 1 south towards Victoria and take the Colwood / View Royal exit #11, then turn right onto Hwy 1A & 14, then ... to Part 2
From: downtown Victoria
From: Seattle & Port Angeles Ferries
Part 1
- drive north on Douglas Street (Victoria's main street) until it turns into Hwy 1
- follow Hwy 1 for 5 minutes and take the Colwood / View Royal exit #10, then ... to Part 2
Part 2
- the 4th traffic light (the light at the casino is the 3rd light) is Knob Hill St. - turn left here (there is a Wendy's at the corner for reference)
- go about 1000 feet and you'll need to make another left on to Ocean Blvd. - follow this paved road through the forest - past Fort Rodd Hill - along the beach and to the first street which is Lagoon Road - turn right here
- 1/2 way up the hill (at the tree line) turn right on to Heatherbell
- the 2nd street down the hill is Portsmouth Drive - turn right - go to the end of the street and the last house on the water side (left) is 206 Portsmouth
