Dam Square is the main point of Amsterdam, the
main square between the Rokin and the Damrak.
Dam square is located 5 minutes walking distance
from Amsterdam Central Station and 2 minutes walking
distance from the Red Light District. Surrounding
Dam Square you will find different kind of hotels

In opposite of the past, Dam Square is
a peaceful square which is home to scores of pigeons.
In the middle on Dam Square you will find
the National Monument that was unveiled on 4 May 1956.
The National Monument was erected in remembrance of
the victims who died during World War II. Every year
on 4 May many dignitaries, including the representatives
of the Dutch royal family, commemorate the victims of
the World War II here.
Beside the National Monument on Dam Square,
you also find the Royal Palace on this central point
of the city. Queens Beatrix does not live here, but
she does entertain her important national and international
guests here. When the Royal do not have important guests
your welcome to come and take a look inside in this
beautiful palace. There are also guide tours available
on request. You can choose between two different tours;
Mythology and Empire. The Mythology tour shows the many
representations of deities and mythological scenes the
Royal Palace boasts. The Empire Tour shows the interior
style of the palace during the time Louis Napoleon lived
here. Whichever of the two tours you choose, you will
feel Royal for a moment.
If you walk direction Spui, you will find
behind the Royal Palace the shopping the Magna Plaza.
This magnificent, 19th century monument used to be the
city's General Post office. Nowadays it is a beautiful
shopping mall which is open 7 days a week. This monument
housed more then 40 luxury shops and 2 restaurants which
a clustered around a special hall.
On 5 minutes walking distance from Dam
square you will find Amsterdam Central Station. Every
day, hundreds of trains are arriving and departing to
and from locations in Holland and foreign countries.
The Thalys with destination Paris North depart 7 times
per day from Central Station. The ICE will take you
to destinations in Germany during daytime and night
time.
