LG Innotek Adopts Broadcom(R) Bluetooth(R) Technology for New Wireless Stereo Headset

New BTR-1000 Cellular Phone Headset With Built-in Microphone Allows Convenient Transition Between Streaming Stereo Music and Phone Calls

IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 27, 2005 /LongDistanceWorld.com/ -- Broadcom Corporation (Nasdaq: BRCM), a global leader in wired and wireless broadband communications semiconductors, today announced that its Blutonium(R) Bluetooth(R) technology is now included in a new wireless headset from LG Innotek Co., Ltd. In addition, LG Electronics, Korea's second largest mobile phone maker, will bundle the new BTR-1000 headset with its new LP3900 cellular phone, combining a wireless stereo headset with a microphone. This enables users to conveniently use the headset for both phone conversations and for enjoying downloaded stereo MP3-style music. Broadcom's advanced audio algorithms are a key enabler of the BTR-1000 headset, providing both a high quality stereo listening experience and a reliable audio headset for phone conversations.

Multimedia features continue to gain popularity in cellular phone handsets as device manufacturers continue to take advantage of the cord-free convenience of Bluetooth to further enhance their customers' experiences. In-Stat, a leading market analyst firm, has identified the wireless headset segment of the Bluetooth market as one of the fastest growing, with shipments of devices expected to reach as high as 90 million units per year by 2008.

"LG Innotek continues to enhance the multimedia experience with our new headset and phone combination that brings state of the art wireless features to the cellular phone user," said KC Chang, Bluetooth Products Development Manager of LG Innotek Co., Ltd. "We found that Broadcom(R) Bluetooth technology provides the best combination of software and silicon to enable advanced multimedia capabilities for our new wireless stereo headset."

"The trend of bundling high-quality stereo and mono headsets with Bluetooth embedded mobile devices is helping to change the way that consumers experience music in their daily lives and LG Innotek is at the forefront of this trend," said Scott Bibaud, Senior Director of Marketing for Broadcom's Bluetooth products. "This design win reflects Broadcom's continued focus on the highly complementary areas of the mobile phone and headset segments of the Bluetooth market."

Broadcom's Bluetooth products include many features that provide advantages to manufacturers focused on delivering the richest possible multimedia experience to their customers. Wireless stereo headset solutions from Broadcom deliver CD audio quality sound at very low power consumption levels providing longer play times on small form-factor batteries. Utilizing highly integrated silicon, Broadcom enables low bill of material costs permitting headset makers to hit consumer price levels that fuel consumer adoption. Combining Broadcom's cellular Bluetooth chips, its BTE mobile software and wireless headset technology creates unparalleled end-to-end wireless stereo solutions for advanced cellular phones with music playback capability.

Availability
The BTR-1000 stereo wireless headset from LG Innotek is now available in Korea and is being bundled with the LP3900 multimedia phone from LG Electronics.
