cable modem, or MVL modem, is secure up to the point where you connect to us.
The responsibility for securing your network in your home or business is yours.
There are many steps you can take to ensure greater security, no matter how you
are connecting to GCI Internet.
From a network perspective, your cable modem Internet
connection is equally as secure as a dial-up connection to the Internet. The
additional exposure lies in the fact that your computer is typically on and
connected to the Internet at all times, as opposed to a dial-up connection,
which is established for a specific period of active use, then
disconnected.
Restricting Internet and Network Access
It's important to restrict network and physical access to your equipment.
Security Levels
GCI's cable modem access has two levels of security, the public network and the private
side.
Firewalls
Many cable modem users choose to implement software or
hardware security solutions called firewalls.
