Historic Richmond Town
It is a historic village and museum complex devoted to life on Staten
Island. Here you can walk through the former county seat of Richmond,
visit historically furnished interiors and explore museum exhibits. Staff
and volunteers provide guided tours and demonstrate the daily activities
of early Staten Islanders on a seasonal, scheduled basis.
Snug Harbor Cultural Center
Originally a home for retired sailors, this beautiful campus of landmark
Greek Revival architecture and lush parkland. Today it is a place where
history, architecture, the visual and performing arts, environmental science
included in performing arts all come together to provide a rich and powerful
learning experience for audiences, young and old.
Staten Island Zoo
This zoo, situated on eight acres of lawns known as Barrett Park, contains
a 206 species of animals – from monkeys and ocelots to birds, badgers,
otters and prairie dogs. The zoo is especially well known for its collection
of reptiles and a large community of bats, including vampire bats. The
Staten Island Zoo has an aquarium containing 70 species and a children's
zoo where youngsters can feed animals and participate in other educational
activities.
The Greenbelt Conservancy
Staten Island holds in its heart 2,800 acres of natural beauty - The Greenbelt.
Most of the Greenbelt is New York City park land featuring natural areas
as well as traditional parks. Visitors can enjoy active recreation such
as golf, archery, baseball and hiking. The Greenbelt also hosts environmental
education programs, summer camp sessions, special events and concerts.
