- A 16-year-old girl from Coventry left home in February
2004 stating she was going to the shops. She did
not return home.
Enquiries eventually traced her to London where she
was living with a male friend who believed her to be
older than she actually was. Police spoke to this friend
and informed him of her actual age and that she was
featured on a poster in Tesco stores.
He informed the girl of this and once she had seen the
poster immediately presented herself to police.
- In May 2004, a 14-year-old girl went missing in
the Handsworth area of Birmingham. She was featured
on posters in Tesco stores.
Later that month a call was received from a member of
the public in relation to the poster stating they had
seen the girl. Although the police scoured the area,
they were unable to locate her.
A few days later, further information led the police
to an address in the street where the original sighting
happened and the girl was found, safe and well.
- On 18th December 1995, a 5-year-old girl from Woodland
Hills, California, was abducted by her mother shortly
before the child's father was to receive legal custody.
A woman in Ohio became concerned about her adult son's
new girlfriend, whose daughter had revealed that she
used to have a different name.
The woman went to the Missing Kids website and searched
for the child under the child's former name, as well
as physical characteristics. The woman found the child's
photo and immediately notified authorities.
On 9th July 2004, the girl, now 13 years old, was safely
recovered.
