Cheapest is Pang. Keluarga with a balcony overlooking the busy street.
Located on JI. Jembatan Singkil by the bridge, next door to Losmen Kotamobagu;
Rp500 but usually full. Losmen Kotamobagu is Rp650. Hotel Kota, JI. Singkil,
is Rp1500 with coffee or tea; signs in each room warn of moral transgressions.
Wenang Hotel, JI. Bethseda, charges Rp7500 single with A.C. eat: Outstanding
and inexpensive food is found in this city. Rumah Makan Mataram, JI. Pier
Tendean, has sate with the best peanut sauce, solo sapi, etc. Two people
can eat beautifully for Rp5-700. Seafood in most restaurants is fantastic:
skipjack, tuna, giantprawns. Hilman Restaurant has exotics like burung
dara goreng (fried dove), Rp1500. Ice Palace Sumadra for special ice drinks.
At shops buy sweet-sour high protein pala fruit (fresh raw nutmeg); Rp350
for one kilo. Jit Hien for reasonably priced Chinese food; chicken dishes
and pork nasi campurs, Rp250. from Manado by bus: From Stasiun Otobis
or from Jenkie Market, get buses to most North Sulawesi towns. To Kotamobagu,
Rp1500. by boat: A bus to the nearest port of Bitung takes one hour, Rp250.
From Bitung, the Pelni boat Tobelo sails to Irian Jaya once monthly, Rp21,750.
Then it returns to Jakarta. Get boats also to Kwandang (near Gorontalo)
from Manado Harbor near the bridge about 300 m from Losmen Kotamobagu.
The Albatross sails to Kwandang once weekly, Rp4500, takes 2-5 days. Other
ships do this run as well. In the main towns along the coast south of
ManadoLolak, Maelang, Bintauna and Bolongitang- ask the camat about onward
boats. Other shipping lines: Arafat; P.T. Gapsu, JI. Yes Soedarso; Sriwijaya
Raya Lines, JI. Kol. Sugiono; P.D. Pelsutra, JI. Sam Ratulangi. to the
Sangir Islands: Take ships from Manado Harbor north to this island group.
Both Bouraq and Merpati Airlines have flights to the Naha-Sangir Island
groups; Manado to Sangir Talaut, Rp18,000. flights: Merpati has flights
4 times weekly to Gorontalo, Rp12,250; to Ternate, Rp15,750. Bouraq operates
flights to Davao in the southern Philippines (Rp28,000) when an automatic
3 week visa is given as soon as you enter. (Or go illegally with copra
smugglers on fishing boats to Zamboanga, Philippines, for about RplO-15,000.)
