Manchester Leading the Way for Affordable Housing
12 Aug 2005
Manchester is emerging as a leader in provision of affordable housing for key workers struggling to get onto the property ladder with the erection of affordable flats by Red or Dead founds Wayne and Geraldine Hemingway which cost less than £80,000 for studio accommodation.
Built in the heart of the city’s northern quarter, the 90 apartment development is being converted from a former furniture warehouse situated behind major department store Debenhams. 27 of the first 30 units built have already been sold within days of release.
Other affordable developments under way in the city include three blocks of flats by architect Will Alsop in New Islington and on the eastern side of Manchester Plumlife is under construction, and will offer shared-ownership flats from £78,950.
