Secretary Rice recently chaired a meeting of the Commission for Assistance to a Free Cuba, stating that the U.S. government must be fully prepared, if asked, to assist a genuine Cuban transition government committed to democracy.

The U.S. Department of State strongly supports implementing the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants and the Rotterdam Convention on the Prior Informed Consent Procedure for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade.


    Radio interviews of State Department officials were conducted in the run-up to the Iraqi elections.  The radio interviews covered a wide range of issues and topics.
