Bridging the gap between old and new, New York's famous landmark Guardian Life Building has undergone renovations and reemerged as the stylish W New York- Union Square in November 2000. The 1911 Guardian Life building - designed in the Beaux-Arts style - is a magnificent granite and limestone structure with all the exquisite details inherent in traditional European architecture. Designed by famed architect David Rockwell, W New York - Union Square combines the charm of this ethereal historic building with the contemporary W touch.

The beautiful park outside extends into our warm Living Room to welcome you. Our signature feather bed with goose down comforters and pillows beckons you. Set at the northeast corner of Union Square Park, our 270 room, 16 deluxe suite property is the first hotel on Union Square - a neighborhood relished for its fine restaurants, bars, theaters, famous green market, and boutique shops. The perks at this luxury hotel also include Rande Gerber's UNDERBAR, and Todd English's signature restaurant, Olives.

All rooms have a down feather bed with custom pillow-topped mattress, 250 thread count linens, 4 King-sized hypo allergenic feather pillows, and a designer goose down duvet cover. Take a deep breath. Exhale. Our soft leather headboard adds the final touch to make you feel completely comfortable.

ENTERTAIN - 27" Color TV equipped with Internet access via a wireless infrared keyboard. Also Cable TV, video cassette player, video library and an array of movies on-command. Sound good? Each room is also furnished with a CD player. And if you leave your tunes at home, don't worry. Our vast library of CD's is available to you 24/7.

COMMUNICATE - An oversized work desk, each room is equipped with two telephones: one is a 900MHz cordless dual-line phone; the other has dataport and speakerphone capabilities. Need a laser printer at 2 am? Just say the word and we'll make it happen.

After gaining critical acclaim in culinary excellence for his "Olives" restaurants in Boston, Washington, and Las Vegas, famed Chef Todd English delights the taste buds once again. Welcome to "Olives" New York - located inside the W Union Square. Relying on wood ovens and open wood fires, Olives offers a deliciously rustic, American rendition of Italian and Mediterranean cuisine. This two story, 100 seat restaurant is a sophisticated blend of old and new. Oriental carpets with warm colors set on wood floors and banquettes with stunning park views. Grab a drink in our lively bar area. Observe who's there. And see how it's all done. There's an open kitchen with a fireplace rotisserie.

The Bar It's time to hit the UNDERBAR. As you enter the UNDERBAR at W Union Square - the flickering candles in this sultry, dark, and seductive basement space catch your eye. See and be seen in the main room. Or hide away in a private alcove upholstered from floor to ceiling. Create your own little world. Each cozy niche space is equipped with privacy curtains and a rope pull to call for service.

To the North: Newly restored Grand Central Station - Shopping concourse: Banana Republic, Kenneth Cole, J. Peterman, (also, commuter rail service to the Northern New York suburbs and Connecticut).
