You go
by train for a fascinating tour and arrive at Aguas Calientes after
about 4 hours. There you take the bus up to Machu Picchu. During the
busy dry-season months of June to September, you might see up to a
thousand visitors at the Lost City of the Incas, as it’s popularly
known. Despite the huge tourist influx, the site manages to retain
it’s air of grandeur and mystery and is considered as a must-see
for all visitors of Perú. |

The bus will pick you up around
6 AM from the hotel for the trip to Ollantantambo. From here we take
the train to KM 104 from where the hike begins. We hike for about
6 hours to the village of Huiñay Huayna. Our guide will explain
all about the sites you see along your way. We are crossing rivers
and have beautiful views over mountains and forest. You will sleep
in tents or a small basic hostel. |

We wake up very early to continue our hike to the sun gate. From
here we pick up the first glimpse of Machu Picchu. Then we walk down
to visit the site. Our guide will facilitate a tour of about 2 hours.
Then you have all the time for your self. If you are ready, you can
hike down to Aguas Callientes to shop around the small markets our
take a bath in one of the hot water pools. At 4:30 pm the train takes
you back to Cusco. |

The Inca trail is one of the
most popular hikes in Latin America with more than 50.000 hikers every
year. You will leave your hotel at 6 AM and go by bus to Ollantantambo.
From here you take the train to KM 88: the beginning of the trail.
We hike to Llactapata were we cross the river Cusichaca. Then it goes
up, making your legs strong for the big and steep hike tomorrow. You
will for sure enjoy your diner and good night rest at the camping
place. Carriers will accompany your group. |

After a good breakfast around 6 am you will hike up to the Warmiwañusca,
or better known as the dead woman's pass. It goes steep up to 4200
meters above sea level! The panorama from here is fascinating. Then
it goes down again and up to the second pass of that day at 3998 meters.
From the top you can see the Cordillera Vilcabamba. The last part
goes through a nice cloud forest and if you are lucky you can see
beautiful birds. After a 12 hours hike, the staff will server your
diner and you can enjoy your night rest. |

The heaviest part is behind you now and today you can enjoy the
beautiful countryside and ruins on your way to Phuyapatamarca. This
nice city is above the clouds and on the outskirts of the city we
make our campsite. Tonight we have a drink to celebrate that you have
almost reached your goal: Machu Picchu. |

We wake up at 4 AM and after breakfast we hike down to the
sun gate from where we see the first glimpse of the Lost City
of the Inca's. From the gate to the reservation parc does not
take you longer than 30 minutes. Because we started very early,
the big amount of tourists are not there yet so you can explore
the resort without them. Our guide will give you a lot of infomation
and answers your questions during a tour of about 2 hours. Subsequently
you can enjoy the site as long as you like. Late in the afternoon
you take the train back to Cusco from the Aguas Callientes Station.
