The email discussion group covers the topic of online GILS (Government Information Locator Systems), especially at the U.S. state government level. We are primarily composed of librarians, archivists, MIS professionals, records management professionals, and vendors concerned with issues involved in the creation, technology, content selection, and state agency and public access for these GILS information systems. We are not restricted to the state government GILS applications. Many of us are also involved in local government GILS coverage; in U.S. federal and international or foreign GILS information systems topics.
Here's my introductory message for you: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dear state-gils subscriber, Welcome as a subscriber to state-gils@egroups.com. This list is for discussions and communications between individuals involved in the implementation and operation of "Government Information Locator Systems." These state GILS systems are becoming important citizen and public information resources. This email discussion list continues the original st-gils list originally hosted by the Oregon State Library. That list was a successful operation, but our ad hoc GILS interest group agreed at the 2d Annual GILS Meeting that we would move the list to the commercial eGroups mailing list service, because of the added functions. The eGroups.com advertising-supported Web mailing list service offers a variety of features and options that promise to add value to our forum. Some of these obvious feature improvements include: * Mailing list archive, searchable. * Polling facility, for quick online votes or decision-making, straw polls. * "Vault," or online space for document-sharing, uploading, file transfer, etc. * Basic database facility for group information. * Group Calendaring. * Online conferencing or "chatting," for group conferencing. * Voice-conferencing, Web-based. We hope you find state-gils to be a productive communication service to support your GILS interests.
