Details of the Raft and Rail

Plan to arrive and check in no later than 9:15 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. departure from our office. We recommend packing a duffle bag or backpack with a change of dry clothes, which we will have waiting for you later in the day. Please keep in mind that our drivers cannot be responsible for wallets, jewelry or other personal items while you are on the river. You may use your car as a locker for all valuables and our office will keep your keys while you are on the trip. We recommend that you take a small amount of pocket money with you for beverages, snacks and candy while on the train.

Enjoy a 12-mile train ride through the Royal Gorge.

We will then transport you upstream 14 miles to Salt Lick where the river rafting portion of your adventure begins. Following your 9-mile raft trip you will take out at our private landing where your street clothes will be waiting for you. You have approximately one hour to enjoy a delicious lunch served on the river and to change clothes in our facilities.

An ECHO staff member will be with you while waiting for the train and a representative of the Royal Gorge Route will escort you to the train upon its arrival. From here you will embark on a 12-mile journey through the famous Royal Gorge. This route has been in existence since the 1880s and was billed as the "Scenic Line of the World" by the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad. The approximate arrival time for the train at the Santa Fe Depot in Caņon City is 2:30 p.m. The train stops on the North side of the depot and clearly marked Echo Canyon River Expeditions vehicles will be waiting for you on the South side of the depot following your arrival. You'll be returned to your car at approximately 3:00 p.m.
