On September 13, IIRR was pleased to honor Carol
Bellamy as the 2005 Y.C. James Yen Citizen of the World at
a reception hosted by IIRR’s long term partner, Cleary Gottlieb
Steen & Hamilton LLP, in New York. In the beautiful setting
of Cleary Gottlieb’s conference hall on the 39th floor
overlooking the Hudson River, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis
Island, close friends of IIRR and Carol Bellamy gathered to
express their admiration, respect and affection for Carol, for
Dr. Y.C. James Yen and IIRR, the Institute he founded.

IIRR held its first international course on Facilitating Community-Managed Disaster Risk Reduction programme in Quito, Ecuador on October 17-28, 2005. The course was organized by the IIRR office, based in Ecuador covering Latin America and Caribbean. Read more

This three-week course enables NGO leaders to critical reflections, develop and refine core competencies strategic to managing development organizations in an era of rapid globalization. This course is designed to increase the learner's ability to describe and critique NGO social change strategies; review concepts and theories of leadership, and allow them to reflect on their own leadership style and behavior; and identify characteristics of effective leaders and to apply them.
