Transportation Plans & Programs
- Eisenhower Parkway Extension.
This proposed improvement is designed to enhance system connectivity and reduce congestion on routes between south and east Bibb County.
- Appalachian Corridor Study.
This study explores east-west mobility across north Georgia. At present, there are predominantly north-south facilities
in this part of the state.
- Banks-Franklin-Jackson Counties Transportation Study. The transportation study identified existing and future operating conditions for the
transportation system within each of these counties.
- Bibb-Jones Cross County Connector Study. The study addresses the need and purpose as well as the preferred planning corridor for a connector between I-75 north of Macon and US 80 east of Macon.
- Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military
Park Transportation Study. The National Park Service (NPS), using funds
provided by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), sponsored a consultant study
to investigate changes in traffic patterns in and around the Chickamauga Battlefield Park
resulting from the completion of the US 27 Relocation in Walker County, Georgia.
- Governor's Task Force on Local Transportation Strategies.
The Task Force is charged with identifying various strategies to
improve funding for local transportation needs.
- Habersham, Rabun,
Stephens, and White Counties Transportation Study. The study looked at all modes of transportation in the area, evaluating the current
transportation deficiencies and identifying future transportation needs.
- High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) System Implementation Plan. The Regional
Transportation plan calls for 262 miles of HOV facilities in the coming years. The HOV System Plan developed by Parsons ultimately guides the state toward better air quality
and improved mobility.
- Interstate 285 Strategic Implementation Plan. The strategic implementation Plan for I-285 is aimed to minimize congestion and to maintain safe and efficient operations over the next 25 years.
- Interstate Study. The Interstate System Plan was an 18-month
study focusing on Georgia's Interstate System outside metro Atlanta that identified improvements
to the Interstate system through a comprehensive assessment of short and long-range needs.
- Multi-County Study. GDOT contracted
with Day Wilburn & Associates to develop long-range transportation plans that will address
rapid growth and air quality concerns in suburban metro-Atlanta area counties. The six counties
under study were Barrow, Carroll, Dawson, Hall, Spalding, and Walton.
- SR 316 Corridor Study. This study examined
transportation needs in the SR 316 corridor from I-85 in Gwinnett County to the Athens
Bypass in Oconee County.
- Statewide Transportation Plan Update.
Facilitates management development of the Department Strategic Plan, which includes measurable objectives, covering the next 3-5 years, that focus on improving Department performance as well as the performance of the state transportation system.

- Adopt-A-Highway Program
A partnership between the Georgia DOT and Keep Georgia Beautiful that establishes volunteer groups to remove litter from roadsides.
- Air Quality Improvement

- Fast Forward Transportation Program
This is a comprehensive 6-year, $15.5 billion transportation program that will relief congestion and spur economic growth by accelerating existing projects.
- Governor's Road Improvement Program (GRIP)
A transportation program to enhance economic development opportunities that will connect 95% of the cities in Georgia with a population of 2,500 or more to the interstate system.
- I-285 Strategic Implementation Plan
The strategic implementation Plan for I-285 is aimed to minimize congestion and to maintain safe and efficient operations over the next 25 years.
- Litter Prevention
An overview of Georgia DOT's effort to improve the landscape and appearance of Georgia roadways by preventing the accumulation of trash and debris on frequently traveled corridors.
- State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP)
A three-year multimodal program that contains federally funded projects identified through the planning process. The STIP includes Highway, Bridge, Bicycle, Pedestrian, Transportation Enhancement Activities and Public Transportation (transit) projects.

An overview of the reauthorization process for the federal funding program TEA-21.

Wildflower Program
An overview of the Department's program that manages the planting and protection of wildflowers on state routes.

Work Zone Safety Program
A campaign on safety issues affecting both construction workers and motorists in work zones on Georgia's highways. The goal is to save motorists and workers from work-zone related accidents and fatalities.

- Transportation Enhancements (TE)
Transportation Enhancements provide communities with the opportunity to improve quality of life for citizens and enrich the community and region through downtown revitalization, development of multi-use trails, and historic preservation projects identified and implemented at the local level.
- Scenic Byways
Through this program, Georgia DOT helps communities preserve, promote, and interpret the cultural heritage and natural environments found along the roadways of our state.
