University positions are advertised daily in the ETSU Employment Opportunities listings. Typing tests are given to all applicants for clerical positions. Accommodation is available to applicants with a disabling condition when applying, testing, or interviewing for a position. As of now, the office of human resources does not process any form of electronic employment applications. Applications and resumes cannot be accepted via e-mail but can be received through paper mail or fax (423-439-8354).

Faculty and administrative positions must remain open for a minimum of 30 days. Clerical and support staff positions must remain open for a minimum of 14 days. Positions will remain posted until the stated deadline date or until the position is filled. East Tennessee State University makes available to prospective employees the ETSU Security Information Report. The report is published annually and includes the following information:
campus policy regarding the reporting of criminal activity
campus policy concerning facility safety and access
campus policy concerning law enforcement
information regarding safety and crime prevention programs
campus policy regarding the sale, possession and use of alcohol and illegal drugs
information regarding drug and alcohol education programs
campus policy regarding sexual assault programs to prevent sex offenses and procedures to follow when sex offenses occur
description of procedures for preparing annual disclosure of crime statistics
campus policy allowing disclosure of crimes on a voluntary, confidential basis
campus policy concerning crimes disclosed to a pastoral or mental health counselor
campus policy concerning the recording of student criminal activity at off-campus locations
timely warning procedure (campus crime alerts)
crime statistics for the three most recent calendar years.
