How to get Now & Then

The current issue
	The Media and Appalachia: Portrayals of the Region from Inside and Out focuses on how the media looks at Appalachia. Now & Then last looked at the media back in 1991. In her column for that issue, then editor Pat Arnow wrote, “The purpose of the discussion in Appalachia’s own media is not so much to educate those outside the region. To my mind the purpose is to develop our own images, our own definitions, our own priorities. This is a way for the residents of Appalachia to gain power in a region that has had little power in the past.” The current issue of Now & Then takes a look at what has happened with media coverage, both inside the region and outside the region in the last 15 years, including looking at stereotypes and Hollywood, the War on Poverty, and writing and reportng from the region.

	New Guidelines for writers, reviewers, and artists and photographers have been posted. We gladly accept unsolicited manuscripts in electronic format (Microsoft Word documents, please), but please pay attention to the themes. We are a magazine about Appalachia and do not publish work that does not pertain in some way to the Appalachian Region.
