The Foro Romano (Roman Forum), once the political, commercial and social center of Rome and impressive is the gigantic oval Colosseo (Colosseum) (the scene of gladiatorial conquests) embody the glory of the ancient Rome. The magnificent Palaces, the residences of Popes and kings are reminders of the medieval times.
Today's Rome is a big modern city with a population of about 4 million. Rome has a state inside city walls. Small Vatican is Mecca for all Catholics and receives a lot of pilgrims from all over the world. Vatican's St Peters Basilica is the largest church in the world.
