ARTIST AMANDA DUNBAR BECOMES AMBASSADOR TO
NATIONAL CENTER FOR MISSING & EXPLOITED CHILDREN
DALLAS, TX - March 1, 2004 - When artist Amanda Dunbar
learned that over 2,000 children are reported missing each day, she felt
an overwhelming desire to help those children in crisis. In response,
the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) today
announced that it is tapping Amanda as a designated Ambassador for the
cause.
As an Ambassador Dunbar will assist the organization by raising support
and awareness among parents, law enforcement, educators, and children
as to the Center's proactive efforts that help find missing children and
protect them from victimization. Dunbar hopes her actions will encourage
others to get involved in protecting our nation's children.
"In my paintings I try to capture the innocence and security of
childhood and it is an unacceptable tragedy when that innocence is taken
away through an act of abduction or exploitation." Dunbar said.
Dunbar's painting The Sprinkler will be featured in the invitations and
program for this year's Hope Awards hosted by NCMEC to take place in Washington,
D.C. on May 18, 2004. The annual Hope Awards recognize those whose efforts
and experiences have made the world a safer place for children. Dunbar
also is undertaking an art-related campaign to raise money to aid the
Center in its charitable endeavors.
"We are delighted to have such a talented and caring young artist
supporting our cause. Her contributions will be invaluable," said
Susan Culler, NCMEC Vice President of Development.

About Amanda Dunbar
Amanda Dunbar is one of the most talked about, collectible and dynamic
young artists in the country. Amanda's experiences, passion and empathy
are exquisitely captured on canvas, and her love of humanity is seen in
oil paintings that depict life's simple celebrations. Her lush landscapes,
inspired by her travels, are reminiscent of the European Impressionist
movement. Once labeled an art prodigy after being discovered in a junior
high art class, she is today a serious art student, who has traveled abroad
the past two summers, studying under the tutelage of some of America's
best-known art teachers, including Yale University's Robert Reed and Greg
Warden, assistant dean of the Meadows School of the Arts at Southern Methodist
University. She has made numerous national TV appearances, including The
Oprah Winfrey Show (twice), and has been featured in newspapers and magazines
worldwide.
