Public Broadcasting Most Trusted News Source

Not happy with Fox News? MSNBC? CBS News? You're not alone. Broadcasting and Cable magazine reports that a Harris telephone survey found that 61 percent of the general public generally trusted news on PBS and NPR, making the non-commercial outlets the most trusted source for news, according to Harris' respondents. No other news source, electronic or print, scored as well in the survey, commissioned by the Public Relations Society of America. However, several newspapers—the Washington Post, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal --were trusted by 56 percent of those polled. Only 53 percent of those reached by phone said they trusted what they hear on commercial or cable broadcast stations. Toward the bottom of the "trust" rankings were conservative radio talk-show hosts (35 percent) and liberal talk-show hosts (31 percent). Least trusted of all: Advertising executives, who scored only 25 percent.

Make a Year-End Contribution to WETS

Public radio is possible only through the support of those who make financial contributions to their local stations. If you haven't made a pledge to WETS this year -- or if you would like to make an additional tax-deductible year-end contribtution -- you can do so online . You can use a Visa or MasterCard, or make a pledge to be paid later. The important thing is that you support your public radio station. We look forward to serving you in 2006.

Listener Comments

Every day, WETS receives comments from listeners, both pro and con, about the progamming offered on WETS-FM. You can read some of these comments inside, and add your own comments by filling out a simple form. You might find that some of your favorite programs are not appreciated by others, and vice-versa. That's what WETS is all about; we try to provide a wide range of programming for a variety of tastes. WETS is like a restaurant with a broad selection; you might not appreciate everything on the menu, but we're sure you'll find something worthwhile in our progamming schedule. To keep this public broadcasting service vital, we ask you to support it with your financial contribution. Even though we share this service with others whose tastes may sometimes diverge from our own, we're all in this together. This is our public radio station. Please help support it with your contribution today.
